The Book Corner – Current Readings

Good Morning, World!

This post is merely an update on my current readings, as the title says… So let’s get it over with!

The Queen Of The Tearling by Erika Johansen

And this is my fancast…

  • Jemima West as Kelsea
  • Jack Falahee as The Fetch
  • Josh Duhamel as Lazarus/Mace

I know they already picked Emma Watson to play the protagonist, but well… I disagree.

I just don’t see her as Kelsea.

Now, Jemima is undisputably beautiful, so it may not be that easy to think of her as Kelsea either, especially since the author often remarks how plain her mc is when it comes to looks, but at least she has the right features.

Also, I think she’s extremely underrated as an actress; I loved her in City of Bones, and I honestly believe she WAS Izzy.

And yes, this is a completely different role, but I’m sure she would have been great in it as well.

As far as the book goes, according to my kindle, I’m halfway through it (48%)  so I won’t say anything yet.

I know what you’re thinking now: then why writing this post?

Honestly, I just was in the mood for it.

By the way, a couple of days ago I finished Cruel Beauty.

And here it is my usual fancast:

  • Alycia Debnam-Carey as Nyx
  • Thomas McDonnell as Ignifex

This was an odd, odd retelling.

Like, really odd.

I did enjoy it, though I didn’t exactly love it.

I particularly dug the whole mythology + folklore thing, and I really appreciated the fact that she wasn’t flawless to begin with. I also liked Ignifex, though I would have liked to see him a bit more active in the story. Honestly, I didn’t really care for Nyx’s family; I understand it was an important part of her personal journey, but I kinda got bored reading so much about it.

At first it was indeed a bit of a slow read, maybe we would have been better off without the umpteenth reminder of her supposed task, but oh well.

All in all, it was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon: I gave it 3 stars on goodreads.

But what do you think? Did you like Cruel Beauty? And what about The Queen of the Tearling? Am I being too obnoxious about the casting? Let me know 😉
